Italian Historian Refutes The Da Vinci Code by John Wauck

An Italian history professor named Marco Fasol, from Verona, has just published an authoritative dismantling of The Da Vinci Code’s historical errors regarding the Christian faith. The book, entitled Il codice svelato. Le fantasie del Codice da Vinci e la realt?† storica (The Code Unmasked: The Da Vinci Code’s fantasies and the Historical Reality), is [...]

Time Magazine on Opus Dei: First the Good News

On the whole, I thought that the text of the Time article on Opus Dei was rather good. I know that the reporters worked hard on it, and it conveys a good deal of what Opus Dei is all about, especially through the side-bar interviews with people like the real Silas of Opus Dei.

I saw this painting a few weeks ago, when I was giving talks about the Da Vinci Code at the British Institute and the diocesan seminary in Florence. This 1581 painting seems particularly fitting today not only because it portrays Mary Magdalen in

Kneeling Before the Bones of Mary Magdalen, or “Been There, Done That”

    099magdal.jpg
Twice in The Da Vinci Code, we hear that “the quest for the Holy Grail is the quest to kneel before the bones of Mary Magdalene.” To which, I can’t help thinking that, at least for a Christian, there can only be one natural response: “been there, done that.”

Not that I’ve actually visited her tomb.

Why Bother with the Book… or the Movie?

For the fortunate few who haven’t read it, here’s a brief summary of Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code, somewhat re-arranged for clarity’s sake.

Da Vinci Code Tourism: Provence in May

I doubt that the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival realized that May 17th, the date on which The Da Vinci Code premieres there, is the anniversary of the beatification of Opus Dei’s founder, St. Josemaria Escriva – but it’s a nice touch. Barbara Nicolosi has sagely suggested that we all celebrate the day by [...]
